- Collaborating with other engineers to develop new product designs or improve existing designs
- Reviewing and approving design proposals, drawings and other documents submitted by other engineers
- Conducting research into new technologies in the industry and adapting them to current needs or developing new solutions altogether
- Developing computer models to test new designs and simulate performance under different conditions
- Creating detailed engineering drawings and schematics of new products or processes
- Reviewing and approving designs for suitability and compliance with regulations
- Preparing bids for engineering projects, including estimates of time and costs required for completion
- Analyzing customer requirements and identifying potential design flaws or issues that could arise during manufacturing
- Developing prototype models for testing new designs in physical environments such as wind tunnels or water tanks
