- Site assessments to determine the geologic conditions of a location. They analyze rock and soil samples, conduct geophysical surveys, and use other tools and techniques to identify the composition and characteristics of the soil and rock formations at the site.
- Assess geological hazards, such as landslides, earthquakes, and volcanic activity, to ensure that engineering projects are safe and sustainable. They use their knowledge of geology to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Environmental impact of engineering projects and develop plans to minimize negative effects on the environment. They may evaluate the potential for soil and water contamination, assess the impact on ecosystems and wildlife, and develop plans to remediate any negative effects.
