Job Description

  • Communicating with drillers about the need to re-drill certain sections of a well if the initial results are inconclusive or if additional samples are required
  • Recording data from mud logs, including measurements of well depth, volume of drilling fluid used during each stage of drilling, and identification of any materials that were recovered from the drilling process
  • Analyzing core samples and other materials recovered from wells during drilling operations in order to identify their chemical composition
  • Interpreting data from other tests performed on oil and gas wells, including gamma ray scans, acoustic scans, and x-ray scans
  • Using computer software to generate visual representations of the data collected during drilling operations
  • Documenting any changes in pressure levels that indicate possible cracks in the walls of the well or other problems with the integrity of the well construction
  • Identifying rock formations that may contain oil or natural gas deposits
  • Preparing reports detailing findings from the analysis of samples taken from wells
