- Interpreting conversations between people speaking different languages, including legal, medical, or business settings
- Interpreting conversations from one written language to another, such as translating literature, official documents, contracts, or websites
- Translating spoken language into written form for court proceedings, business meetings, concerts, speeches, and other events
- Performing simultaneous interpretation services for large groups of people who speak different languages
- Explaining cultural differences to clients in order to facilitate communication
- Ensuring that all parties understand the content of discussions or negotiations by clarifying terms or concepts that may be unfamiliar to them
- Interpreting written text into another language orally, especially in legal proceedings, business meetings, or conferences
- Interpreting written text into another language in written form, such as translating contracts or legislation into another language
- Translating written text into another language orally, such as providing a live interpretation of a speech in another language
