The Bank of Israel is the central bank of the State of Israel. The bank was founded in December 1954, and is based in Jerusalem - in Kiryat Ben-Gurion, near the Knesset residence, the Supreme Court and the government offices. Another branch of the bank operates in Tel Aviv (Lilienblum Street). A branch of the Banking Supervision Department, which is responsible for the audit of banking corporations, is also located in Tel Aviv (Yavneh Street). The Bank is independent, and its objectives and modes of operation have been set by the Bank of Israel Law of 2010. Its goals are to maintain price stability, support the achievement of government targets, especially in the areas of growth and employment, and reduce social gaps and support the stability of the financial system. In addition, the Bank's Tel Aviv (Lillinblum Street) building houses a visitor center, featuring an exhibition depicting the development of money and its issuance, and the bank's main functions are explained through films, lectures and games.
